I have an old Agfa snapscan 1212u flatbed scanner. I can still run it in Classic on my G4. I'd like to be able to run it in Tiger. I found this link from the Agfa home page, where they say they no longer support their scanner line. Can someone please take a look at this link for me and let me know it it looks like this driver is an OK thing (aka safe thing) to download? Once I download the driver, are their any tricks to instaling a driver that I need to learn?
I assume this is a no go for my Intel MBP? Thanks, Mrs H. Mrs H, Don't throw away that old Snapscan 1212. I have the old blue translucent model that came out about the time as the original bondi blue iMacs (have one of those too) and it works great with my current iMac G4 running Tiger.
I've always run the Scanwise software and have it runs for me now in Tiger, not in Classic. I'll check and see what version I have and let you know. Looks like I have Scanwise X version 2.1fc2. Is that what is currently available for download?
The OS X version from the following link is the same version that I have and should work fine for you in Tiger. You can easily get the free version of Stuffit if you end up needing it to open the download. Regards, Steve M. Message was edited by: Steve M. Message was edited by: Steve M. It looks old. I got the scanner in 2001. It still should work in Classic? (or at the very least on its old driver on the G4 if I use my OS 9 HD as my startup disk?).
What is the date on it? By 'it' do you mean my scanner or the download? I got the scanner in 2001. The download - I did download it but not install it - isn't dated as I look at the info in the download window. The other download (for Scanwise) on the same 1212u page but specifially for Classic is dated 10/2/01 This is newer than the version of Scanwise I have on my OS 9 (9/20/99) which worked fine before I upgraded to OS X and I haven't used it since.
The home page has this note: 'Agfa discontinued its DTP scanner product line (SnapScan, DuoScan, Horizon and Arcus range) and digital cameras (ephoto, ActionCam, StudioCam) at the end of 2001. However, driver & software downloads as well as manuals remain available on this page.' The FAQ refers to OS 10.3 but makes no mention of 10.4 in any info for any of the products. Would there be any harm in plugging in the scanner with NO driver for Tiger and seeing what happens?
Could I have screwed up Tiger by installing the old driver, which I have downloaded buy NOT installed? I'm looking for a free/inexpensive way to do this.
At $40 for Vue Scan I might just be better off getting a new scanner when I next must scan in Tiger. I haven't priced them obviously and I may be way off base here. I'd love to hear your thought on the additional info I've provided. If I use my OS 9 HD as my startup disk?). Yes, should work as always booted into OS9. Isn't dated as I look at the info in the download window.
Do a Get Info on the downloaded file & report the Date Created, if it's not 2004 or more, I doubt it'll work in Tiger. The FAQ refers to OS 10.3 but makes no mention of 10.4 Some 10.3 stuff does work in 10.4. Would there be any harm in plugging in the scanner with NO driver for Tiger and seeing what happens? Should be no harm whatsoever.
Could I have screwed up Tiger by installing the old driver, which I have downloaded buy NOT installed? Nope, only installing would have any effect one way or the other. You could store any kind if file on your Mac. At $40 for Vue Scan I might just be better off getting a new scanner when I next must scan in Tiger. I understand, but it is imo the best Scanning SW for any scanner, and will likely support 99% of any new Scanners!
Some Scanners or MFps are dirt cheap these days. I use it for both my AGFA Snapscan USB and my Firewire Epson Perfection. BTW, If you don't use it that much, it has a free trial anyway. Yes, should work as always booted into OS9. That's what I figured. Isn't dated as I look at the info in the download window.
Do a Get Info on the downloaded file & report the Date Created, if it's not 2004 or more, I doubt it'll work in Tiger. Ge info shows the same info as in the window in finder, just that it's a Stuffit.dmg.sit. I don't think I even HAVE stuffit in OS X. For date created it shows yesterday - the day I downloaded it. In the FAQ where it was mentioning OS 10.3 it wasn't specifically talking about this driver, it was just that was how recent the page got in its discussion of apple OS for anything. BTW, If you don't use it that much, it has a free trial anyway. That's worth a look, the next time I need to scan I'll try it.
I've worked around the need for the scanner recently by photoing what I needed and then using my card reader to transfer the photo to the computer. I was just planning for future when I started looking for the driver for the old scanner. Thanks as ever, Mrs H. Mrs H, Don't throw away that old Snapscan 1212.

The only info I can get on it is what I said above. The OS X version from the following link is the same version that I have and should work fine for you in Tiger. Do you see your version number anywhere here and I'm missing it? Great to know that I can get my scanner to work in Tiger. It is the white model and has served me well in the past but for the last year it has been sitting unused on a shelf.
